In addition to preparing
plans for local governments, facilitating transportation improvements and
managing the region's water quality, the COG's Planning Services staff is
involved in the activities of various community-based organizations.
Planners offer their expertise in demographics, urban growth, and land use
while advising these groups on planned activities.
The COG's Planning
Services department acts as an advisory to community groups and regional
associations. Staff members sit on working committees dealing with a
wide array of issues. Region 4 of the SC Heritage Corridor, which
promotes tourism in Charleston, Dorchester, and Colleton Counties, and
Community Health Partners, which provides a healthcare network throughout
the BCD Region are among the organizations with COG staff members sitting on
their working committees.
The BCDCOG also acts as a
local affiliate and information repository for the US Census Bureau.
This enables the Council of Governments to provide local governments and
community groups with quick access to statistics while conducting its own
cross-referencing research.
In other instances, the
BCDCOG holds public hearings in the region on anything from transportation
issues to CDBG grants.
