NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING CONCERNING APPLICATION

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that on July 26, 2021 at 5:00 p.m., the Berkeley-Charleston-Dorchester Council of Governments will host a Public Hearing on behalf of Dorchester County at the Dorchester County Human Services Building, 500 North Main Street, Summerville, SC 29483, concerning an application to be submitted to South Carolina Department of Commerce, Grants Administration for a Community Development Block Grant.  Dorchester County is requesting $215,000 to carry out the following activities:

Dorchester County is seeking to partner with the Lowcountry Food Bank (LCFB) to provide additional food resources to primarily low- to moderate-income (LMI) persons via food bank partner agencies that serve HUD-documented LMI areas throughout the county. Dorchester County will also provide additional refrigeration and freezer capacity to those LCFB partners who do not currently have adequate capacity or capability to temporarily store fresh and/or frozen food items prior to distribution. Dorchester County intends to hire one part-time staff member during the grant term to facilitate the program, manage equipment purchases and coordinate food distribution efforts to partner agencies.

This public hearing and the matters to be discussed are subject to the provisions of the Dorchester County’s Citizen Participation Plan, developed in anticipation of participation in the State of South Carolina’s Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program, providing for the participation of the citizens of the County in the planning and implementation of community and economic development projects which will involve CDBG funds.
