The Berkeley Charleston Dorchester (BCD) Council of Governments, a regional planning agency located in North Charleston, SC. BCDCOG serves the tri-county area and provides a wide variety of planning, transportation, economic development and community development services to aid the orderly growth of our region.
BCDCOG is seeking interns to assist with various regional planning projects this Fall (2021) with the potential to continue the internship into 2022.
Responsibilities: Interns gain experience in assisting professional planning staff conduct research, collect and analyze data, produce maps and graphics, and draft reports on a variety of topics, including land use and zoning, multi-modal transportation, environmental, economic development, and community development. Interns may also be asked to assist with preparation of materials and facilitation of public outreach activities.
Intern schedules are part-time, with flexible hours, ranging from 18-28 hours/week.
Qualifications: Demonstrated experience in research, data management, communications (written and oral), presentations, and computer programs are necessary. Working knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Adobe Creative Suite 6 software is desired, but not required.
Preference will be given to applicants who are currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a four-year university or master’s program in city and regional planning, engineering, historic preservation, public administration, data science, environmental studies, urban studies, or a related field.
Compensation is provided based on qualifications.
